Throne FAQs

Answers to the most common questions about Throne One, the Throne app, membership, and your data.

Everything you want to know about Throne — the health check that happens every time you sit down.

Throne Basics

What is Throne?

Throne is the first health tracker for the one place your body already gives you a daily report: the bathroom. Throne One is a small smart sensor that clips onto your toilet rim and turns every visit into wellness insights. No wearables, no logging, nothing new to remember. You just sit down like you always do.

Behind that, Throne is a continuous tracking device for personalized insight about gut health and hydration. It helps you connect the dots between your diet, your lifestyle, and what's happening in your gut, and the app gives you continuous trend data over time rather than a one-off snapshot. No samples, no extra steps.

What does Throne do?

Throne tracks four dimensions of your everyday wellness:

  • Gut health — stool form and frequency, classified on the clinically established Bristol Stool Scale

  • Hydration — urine color and concentration, translated into a score you can act on today

  • Urinary flow — flow rate, duration, and volume, tracked as trends over time

  • Bathroom habits — your timing, regularity, and routine

Everything appears as clear scores and trends in the Throne app. No lab visits, no guesswork. For a deeper look at how each metric is measured, see What Exactly Does Throne Do?

Can my whole household use one Throne?

Yes — Throne is built for shared bathrooms. Up to six members can be recognized automatically when their phone (Bluetooth on) is nearby, and two people can use the included physical buttons for phone-free sessions.

Each person gets their own private account and membership. Data stays separate. Insights stay personal — no one sees anyone else's. Each member account can pair to as many Throne devices as they would like.

  • Hands-free recognition: Throne One uses proximity detection and Bluetooth to automatically recognize who's using it. Just keep your phone nearby and let Throne handle the rest.

  • Dedicated buttons: You can also pair up to two members directly to the physical buttons on the device — ideal for those midnight trips without your phone.

Note: Each member needs their own Throne account and active membership to receive personalized health insights. See How To Connect Additional Members To Your Throne Device.

Can I buy Throne where I live?

Throne is currently available in the United States only, and membership requires a U.S. billing address. International expansion is on the roadmap — join our newsletter to be the first to know when Throne arrives in your country.

Who owns my data?

You do. Your bathroom data belongs to you, full stop.

Privacy is foundational to Throne. The sensor points straight down into the bowl — it is physically incapable of seeing you — and any frame that even appears to contain part of a person is automatically and permanently deleted.

Your data is stored using industry-leading encryption in transit and at rest, we never sell your personal information, and you can request to delete your account and everything in it at any time in the app by going to the support chat and selecting to have your Account and Data deleted.

Can I share my data with my doctor?

Your data is yours to share. Many members bring their Throne trends to checkups as a conversation starter — objective, day-by-day patterns beat trying to recall the last month from memory.

What makes Throne different from other health trackers?

Throne provides effortless, hands-free monitoring directly from your toilet. Rather than requiring wearables or manual logging, your device automatically analyzes your output to deliver personalized insight into your gut health, hydration, and urinary function. It captures the one signal wearables can't.

Who is Throne best for?

Throne is built for anyone who wants a clearer window into their own health without changing a thing about their routine. It fits especially well if you're paying attention to how your body responds to food, hydration, stress, or travel; tracking the effect of a new diet, supplement, or medication over time; already using wearables and want the one signal they can't capture; or simply curious what your everyday patterns are telling you.

Flow tracking adds a dimension that's most useful for men monitoring how their patterns change with age. Wherever you're starting from, Throne's value is the same: seeing your own trends clearly enough to act on them.

How do I use it?

Just sit down. Throne recognizes you one of two ways: hands-free, when your phone (Bluetooth on) is nearby, or with a press of your personal button if you've left your phone behind. A typical session takes one to three minutes, and there's no need to wait to flush — Throne captures what it needs while you go.

What about guests?

Throne stays completely inactive for anyone who isn't a registered member. No recognition, no session, no data. Guests can use your bathroom exactly as they would any other.

Is Throne a medical device?

No. Throne is a general wellness product — think of it like a sleep tracker or fitness wearable, but for what your body's already telling you in the bathroom. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease, and it isn't covered by insurance, Medicare, or VA benefits. Always consult your healthcare provider with medical concerns.

How accurate is Throne?

Throne's AI was trained on thousands of clinician-labeled samples and benchmarked against established references: the Bristol Stool Scale for stool classification, where it achieves human-level consistency, and the standard urine color references used in sports medicine for hydration.

Throne is built for consistent, trend-level wellness insight — not laboratory diagnostics. Its real power is showing you how your patterns change over time.

How much does Throne cost?

The Throne One device is $399.99. A Throne Membership — $6/month or $70/year — powers your session analysis, personalized insights, and trends.

Do I need a membership, and why?

Yes. Your membership is what makes Throne smart: AI analysis of every session, secure cloud storage of your full history, continuous software updates, and new features as we ship them. Without an active membership, the device won't analyze or sync new sessions — though your historical data stays yours, and stays accessible.

Learn more in our Throne Membership FAQ.

What's your return policy?

Throne comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee. If it's not for you, contact our support team and we'll send a prepaid return label. Full details live in our Shipping and Returns policy.

How do I cancel my membership?

Anytime, right in the app: tap your profile icon → Manage MembershipCancel.

You keep full access through the end of your current billing period, and your data history stays safe in your account. Step-by-step instructions are in How to Manage Your Active Throne Membership.

Device & Setup

How does Throne work?

Throne pairs downward-facing optical and acoustic sensors with AI developed alongside clinicians. The device wakes only when it recognizes a registered member — via a quiet Bluetooth handshake with your phone, or your personal button — analyzes the session, and delivers your results to the app within minutes.

How difficult is installation?

Most people are up and running in minutes, no tools required. The app walks you through pairing, Wi-Fi, and placement with visual guides:

  1. Download and open the Throne app.

  2. Create your Throne account and activate your membership.

  3. Follow the guided instructions in the app to pair and install your device.

One step people miss: peeling the protective sticker off the sensor lens before your first session. It's the single most common setup hiccup — and the easiest to fix. Full walkthrough: Welcome To Throne - Getting Started.

Will Throne fit my toilet?

Throne is designed for standard, flat-rimmed toilets, and best placed on the side rims of the bowl. It performs best on standard white porcelain toilets — dark, patterned, or heavily tinted bowls can affect reading accuracy.

Does Throne work with a bidet?

Yes. Throne's AI recognizes bidet use and keeps it out of your results — your hydration score comes from your urine, not rinse water. If you use a bidet seat attachment, you may need to shift Throne's placement slightly so both fit comfortably on the rim. Integrated smart toilets and self-cleaning bidets vary; if anything looks off in your session timeline, our support team will help you dial it in.

Does Throne need charging?

Rarely. The battery lasts 25+ days on a typical charge, and Throne charges over USB-C — the extended-length cable and charging brick in the box let you top up without ever taking it off the toilet. We recommend charging whenever the Throne app indicates a low battery.

How and how often do I clean it?

Wipe it down with a damp cloth — that's the entire routine. Throne is built for the bathroom: it's water-resistant and made with an antimicrobial housing, so it holds up to everyday cleaning and normal splashes. There's nothing to disassemble and no special products required. A quick wipe whenever you clean the toilet is plenty. Avoid dragging anything abrasive across the sensor lens, and avoid harsh chemicals like bleach or ammonia. Keeping the lens clean is what keeps your readings accurate.

What if my Throne device gets wet?

Throne One is IP65 rated, meaning it resists the water splashes and moisture common in bathroom environments. It should not be fully submerged in water but if it falls in the toilet during setup, it should be okay!

What should I do if my Throne stops connecting?

Try these steps:

Gut Health

What is my Gut Health Score?

Your Gut Health Score (0–100%) reflects your digestive balance over the past 30 days. It combines two things: quality (stool consistency on the Bristol Stool Scale) and frequency (how regularly you go), measured against your own personal baseline — not someone else's. Because it's a rolling 30-day view, it evolves gradually rather than resetting each day.

What is the Bristol Stool Scale?

The Bristol Stool Scale is the clinical framework doctors use to classify stool into seven types, from Type 1 (hard and separate) to Type 7 (liquid), with Types 3 and 4 as the comfortable middle ground. Throne classifies every session automatically — a clinically grounded read without having to look or guess.

What does my score actually mean?

Your score is a read on consistency and regularity relative to your normal — not a grade to stress over. A steady score in your usual range means your routine is working. What deserves your attention is change: a sustained shift in your score is your body flagging that something in your diet, hydration, stress, or routine has moved. Throne makes sure you see it.

Can Throne diagnose a digestive condition?

No — Throne provides general wellness information only and can't diagnose any condition. What it can do is give you clear, objective trend data about your own patterns, which many members find valuable to bring to conversations with their healthcare provider.

Hydration

How does Throne measure hydration?

Throne's downward-facing optical sensor reads urine color as a proxy for concentration — catching nuances the human eye can't — and converts them into a Hydration Score from 0 to 100.

Why does my hydration score reset each day?

Because hydration changes hour to hour. Unlike your Gut Health Score, which looks across 30 days, your Hydration Score reflects your most recent session — a real-time nudge you can act on today, not a report card on last week or month.

What can affect my hydration score?

Beyond how much you drink: certain vitamins, medications, and foods (such as B vitamins or beets) can change urine color, and menstruation can temporarily read as lower hydration. Off-white or tinted bowls can also influence readings. The app provides context so you can interpret scores with confidence during these times.

How can I improve my hydration?

Steady beats sporadic. Most members discover patterns they never knew they had — consistently low morning scores, post-workout dips — and small, well-timed adjustments move the trend. That's most of what makes Throne useful: seeing your own pattern clearly enough to change it.

Gut Health Coach

What is Gut Health Coach?

Gut Health Coach is the feature in your app that connects the dots. It pairs what Throne captures automatically — your stool sessions and scores — with the everyday context only you can add, then surfaces personalized insights in the Insights tab. It's how raw data becomes something you can act on.

What kind of insights will I see?

The Gut Health Coach reads your journal entries alongside your stool sessions to flag connections you'd be unlikely to spot on your own — how a late dinner, a stressful week, or a new supplement lines up with what shows up the next day. Insights appear in the Insights tab and get more personal the more you log.

Urinary Flow

What is urinary flow tracking?

Throne measures your flow rate, duration, and volume every session, then builds them into trends over time. It's a dimension of wellness that's nearly impossible to measure outside a clinic — and Throne does it passively, every day, at home.

Who is urinary flow tracking for?

It's built for men, since accurate flow measurement works when urinating while standing — aim for the center of the water for best results. Flow naturally changes with age, and having your own baseline and trend history is information many men choose to bring to their healthcare provider.

Does Throne track nighttime bathroom trips?

Yes. Throne captures the timing and frequency of every session, including nighttime patterns — a quiet signal about your routine that's worth watching over time.

Bathroom Habits

What is my Bathroom Habits Score?

Your Bathroom Habits Score reflects the rhythm of your routine — when you go, how often, and how consistent your patterns are day to day. Your body runs on a clock, and regularity is one of the simplest windows into how well that clock is running.

What is the Week in Review?

Every week, Throne summarizes your key metrics, compares them to your normal, and highlights what changed. It's the fastest way to spot trends without digging through individual sessions.

What if I go while I'm away from home?

Sessions away from your Throne aren't captured automatically, but you can log them manually in the app to keep your picture complete. And because Throne focuses on trends over weeks, your insights stay meaningful even when some sessions happen elsewhere. Your gut doesn't take a break when you travel — neither does Throne.

Can I customize what I track?

Yes. Choose which metrics matter most to you, adjust tracking preferences, and set (or silence) notifications anytime — all in the app.
